Rasquache Residency invites emerging, mid-career, and established artists from all artistic and academic fields to participate in this residency of intense artistic production, research, and community engagement. Rasquache welcomes artists working in all expressive forms of art seeking a trans-disciplinary and collaborative environment.  The Residency takes place annually during every summer season.  Room, meals, basic art materials, and traveling within Mexico are provided by the Residency at a minimum fee.  Artists are responsible for traveling expenses to and from the residency.  Artists share rooms and a living space in a 3-bedroom home.  No individual studio space is provided for each artist, however the outdoor space is used for larger works and as a communal working studio.  The location and mission of Rasquache is the most vital aspect of the program, therefore, being situated in a rural town we are committed to Rasquachismo ideals by making the most from the least.  Artists will be challenged to recontextualize their practice in a setting of limited facilities and  but engaging with the community and culture as the main resources driving projects and conversations forward.  Unfortunately, space is limited and therefore we are not able to accommodate additional family or partners, however, visitors are warmly welcomed.

This is a self-directed Residency with an emphasis in socially engaged work that responds to and with/for the local communities.  Our mission is to establish a collaborative environment of community engaged activities that benefit both the artist and his/her work as well as the community, always thinking in reciprocity.  Rasquache believes in cultural and artistic agency as an empowering and critical tool for both the artist and the community.  Artists will be encouraged to produce dialogues and works concerning societal issues surrounding the region of Cholula, Puebla and the discourse of immigration.

During the residency artists engage in in-depth artistic research by visiting nearby museums, lectures, events, performances, historical sites, institutions, and artist studio visits in the surrounding areas.  Additionally, Rasquache  invites visiting established artists/scholars for lectures and presentations as well as producing work. The residency is eager to bridge interactions amongst communities and artists allowing for the nourishment of mutual endeavors.

Rasquache invites artists to participate in our exhibitions/community events and annual catalog publication.  Cocina De Humo Gallery is our on-site exhibition space dedicated to the culmination of the artists' work as well as workshops, lectures, performances, and screenings. These showings/community events serve as a vehicle to promote transborder artistic endeavors and to build binational dialogues of pressing realities.  Rasquache is an ambitious project seeking to be ever growing in emphasizing the role and integration of our communities.

RASQUACHE IS  NOT CURRENTLY ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS.

WE ARE WORKING ON A NEWLY DEVELOPED PHASE OF RASQUACHE WITH INVITE ONLY ARTISTS.

PLEASE STAY TUNED FOR FUTURE OPEN CALLS.
